The Italian leg of the Peace Run torch relay will end in Scampia, in the square in front of the Gianni Maddaloni sports center. This event, created in 1987 by spiritual master Sri Chinmoy to promote a culture in which all individuals are considered members of one great global family: humanity, will be held in the square in front of the Gianni Maddaloni sports center. "We decided to bring the torch to Scampia," explains one of the organizers, "to support the revitalization of the neighborhood, now in full recovery after a past marked by sad events. We will arrive in front of the Gianni Maddaloni sports center, which with its initiatives has become a true beacon for all young people." Among the torchbearers who have carried the torch and supported the initiative over the years are sports champions such as Muhammad Ali and Carl Lewis, as well as figures who have become protagonists in human history, such as Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Before arriving in Scampia on the afternoon of Thursday the 26th, the torch will stop in Caivano at the "F. Morano" Institute.
