A 50-year-old from Trecastagni, in the province of Catania, called himself a freelance chef and prepared preserves using marijuana as the main ingredient. The Carabinieri had learned that in the town on the slopes of Etna a man was growing marijuana and was involved in dealing and went to his home. The military then found 2 marijuana plants 2,5 meters high hidden among the vegetation and clothes artfully hung out to hide them from view as well as, extending the search inside the home, some containers with the inflorescences for drying and other glass jars containing the same narcotic substance for a total of over half a kilo of marijuana and glass jars. The military were attracted by the labels "Santa Caterina SballOlives", placed on a jar containing olives treated with marijuana, or by a bottle of "Kannamang" wine and coffee and tuna flavored with cannabis. The man said he considered himself an "agri-food consultant for third-millennium Mediterranean cuisine", as well as working in the gastronomic sector in search of new tastes and aromas. The Carabinieri searched the chef's car and home, finding additional grams of marijuana which, considering the total quantities of the narcotic substance found and the way it was concealed, led to his arrest. The man, initially relegated to house arrest, was released after the arrest was validated, awaiting trial for possession of narcotics for the purpose of dealing.
