On Tuesday, September 24, at 9:45 a.m., the press conference presenting the eleventh edition of the International Hot Air Balloon Festival, which will take place in Paestum from September 28 to October 6, 2019, was held in the Sala Giunta of Palazzo Sant'Agostino, the seat of the Province of Salerno. At the meeting the mayor of Capaccio Paestum Franco Alfieri and the creator and organizer of the event Michele Torlo, president of the association Vivere Paestum. The International Hot Air Balloon Festival is an event dedicated to hot air ballooning, organized in a setting made extraordinary by the proximity of the temples of Paestum, above which you fly, with a breathtaking view: for this reason the event has been ranked among the five most evocative international hot air balloon festivals in the world (www.lofficielitalia.com/viaggi/festivalmongolfiere-nel-mondo). Every year the event attracts thousands of visitors, many of them foreigners, with a constantly growing trend: the photographs taken from the hot air balloon become real postcards that tell the story of the archaeological area from above, combining knowledge of the territory with the emotion of flight. The media impact of the event is also very strong, with images bouncing around social media all over the world, promoting the temples but also the entire regional territory as a destination for a particular and quality tourism, which aims to go beyond the seasonality, with a winter "tail" made up of events connected to the Festival that are still top secret. The Hot Air Balloon Festival, with balloons from Italy and many foreign countries, has recorded over 30 thousand visitors in past editions, hosting illustrious figures in the sector and national and international champions, eager to be in the front row at this important gathering. “This event adds value to an area already characterized by extraordinary archaeological and landscape beauty. The Municipality is alongside the Vivere Paestum association that has been promoting the event for years, an important step towards resolutely aiming at the deseasonalization of an area that looks to a type of tourism that goes beyond the typical attractions of summer. The Poc Campania 2014-2020 that the Municipality was awarded is only the first step in the administration's commitment to the enhancement and promotion of the territory, a commitment that will see us again alongside Vivere Paestum also in the next editions of the Festival", declared Mayor Alfieri. A statement shared by the mayor's delegate councilor for Tourism Antonio Scariati: "The watchword is to deseasonalise and offer quality events: the Hot Air Balloon Festival responds to both needs and we will support it from now on". Torlo expressed great satisfaction for the support received from the municipal administration, also in view of an exponential growth of the event: "Up until now the Festival has gone ahead solely on the strength of Vivere Paestum, knowing that from today on the event will continue together with the municipal administration fills me with joy". In the Festival village, where both free and tethered flight take place, there are also spaces for children's entertainment, performances by street artists, educational workshops aimed at schools, exhibition areas for local products and crafts, and days dedicated to discovering the area. The Hot Air Balloon Festival benefits from funding from the 2014-2020 POC programme – strategic line 2.4 “Urban regeneration, tourism and culture policies”.
