Sold out daily, appreciation from the Italian and foreign public, more than positive reviews for the richness of the educational and cultural offering, all these are the reasons that have led the staff of the Archaeological Park of Ercolano to review the closing date of the first major Exhibition of the SplendOri Park. Luxury in ornaments in Ercolano, extending its closure to November 30, 2019. Started on December 20, 2018 and scheduled to close on September 30, the exhibition, set up in the Antiquarium of the Park, has recorded such appreciable reviews in recent months that the director of the Park, Francesco Sirano, wanted the public to be able to continue enjoying it for another two months, foreseeing its definitive closure for November 30, 2019.
"The decision to extend the deadline for this first exhibition organized by the Park - says Director Sirano - responds to an almost daily request that has echoed in recent months from all those who have been able to visit it. Visitors still have two months to appreciate the value not only of the jewels on display, but also and above all the educational and cultural sense that this exhibition adds to the visit to the archaeological park. The gold also carries an intrinsic value given by the human charge of the stories they are the spokespersons of: they were objects that the inhabitants of the site wore, loved, defended and this is probably the added value that the visitors themselves appreciated. The possibility of completing the visit to the archaeological site by observing objects that belonged to the ancient inhabitants of the city represents the completion of the visit that leaves visitors leaving with an extra pang in their hearts".
The SplendOri Exhibition. Luxury in ornaments in Herculaneum is represented by a collection of about 200 jewels and precious objects, unique in quantity and value of the pieces on display, is hosted inside the Antiquarium of the Park, and this location is also a source of pride for the Director of the Park: "having returned, or rather established, a place that can host exhibitions inside the park itself, represents for me the first reason for satisfaction for the efforts made. The Antiquarium of the Park, before my arrival, was restored, ready for use as an exhibition space but then lacking the final adjustments that could allow it to be opened. In addition to the exhibition space, a teaching room has also been organized that hosts conventions and conferences, thus allowing us to offer the entire territory further cultural opportunities".
In the meantime, the ministerial initiatives promoted by the MIBAC #iovadoalmuseo and Domenica al Museo are continuing and continuing. The public of the Ercolano Archaeological Park will also be able to take advantage of the free admission on the first Sundays of the month to visit the archaeological site, in particular the next free admission openings are scheduled for Sundays 6 October, 3 November, 1 December. Sunday at the museum, free admission to the Herculaneum Archaeological Park on February 1st
A day among Roman streets, frescoed houses, and unique artifacts, without paying an admission fee. On Sunday, February 1st, the Herculaneum Archaeological Park is participating in "domenicalmuseo," the Ministry of Culture's initiative that opens state museums and archaeological parks to the public free of charge on the first Sunday of every month. For an entire day, visitors and tourists will be able to freely enter the ancient city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius, strolling along the cardini and decumani and discovering some of the site's iconic sites. These include the Boat Pavilion, which illustrates the close relationship between Herculaneum and the sea through boats and relics of maritime life, and the Antiquarium, which houses extraordinary everyday objects, such as the famous charred wood and the exquisite Herculaneum Gold. Free admission to the Park does not require online reservations: tickets must be picked up directly at the ticket office on the day of the visit. This event is part of the broader goal of bringing cultural heritage closer to more people, offering the chance to experience historical sites in an accessible and hands-on way. In addition to the archaeological site, the exhibition "From the Egg…" will also be open to the public.
Med Exhibit Print&Foto lands a poker hand: at the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples, from February 27th to March 1st
From February 27 to March 1, 2026, the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples will host the fourth edition of Med Exhibit Print&Foto, the event dedicated to the world of printing, visual communication, and, starting this year, photography. This event aims to establish itself as a benchmark for Southern Italy and the Mediterranean region, with a unique format combining exhibitions, education, and networking. We met with Massimo Solimene, one of the event's organizers, to learn about the new developments, challenges, and expectations for the fourth edition of the now traditional Neapolitan fair. The fourth edition brings with it a significant innovation: the inclusion of photography. Why this choice, and what are your expectations? Photography is now an integral part of visual communication, just like printing and graphic design. We decided to include this "world" because it represents a natural progression in the fair's evolution: indeed, talking about printing inevitably also means talking about images. We therefore expect to welcome professionals and enthusiasts who can find inspiration, new solutions and technologies, and at the same time…
Pompeii, operation against unlicensed guides: fake tour leader reported with fake badges
Pompeii – Carabinieri officers from the Pompeii Excavation Station have successfully completed a major operation to combat the unauthorized practice of tour guides, a long-standing problem at one of the world's most visited archaeological sites. During an extraordinary patrol deployed to ensure the safety of the thousands of visitors who flock to the excavations every day, the officers identified and reported a 44-year-old man, a resident of Castellammare di Stabia, who was caught red-handed leading a group of about ten American tourists. The Carabinieri's action was swift and based on their in-depth knowledge of the area. The man was unknown to law enforcement, which immediately raised suspicions among the officers, who are well-versed in licensed guides and the individuals who typically operate in the area. After apprehending the 44-year-old, the Carabinieri conducted a search, during which they found two counterfeit badges: a metal one with the Campania Region logo and another, apparently from the Ministry of Tourism. They had two counterfeit badges with the Region's logo...
