Qualiano. Following a video shared on social media in recent days by a citizen depicting a Black man dumping waste from a stroller outside the Costagliola Roma settlement, Mayor Raffaele De Leonardis reported the matter to the Qualiano Carabinieri. After an investigation, followed yesterday by a raid under the command of Commander Pasquale Bilancio, they identified the person responsible for the illegal waste disposal. The man is a Malian national hired by the Roma to dump waste from the camp onto the street. This hazardous waste is likely brought to the Roma settlement from outside. This waste, of all kinds, is often then set alight, creating toxic fires, as occurred earlier this month. This is despite our repeated cleanup operations, carried out exclusively on the state highway.
"The Malian," the mayor explains in a note, "in possession of a regular residence permit, had already been reported in the past for illegal waste disposal. The man was reported again by the Carabinieri and removed from the Roma camp. The Carabinieri's activity, carried out jointly with administrative personnel from the municipality of Qualiano, continues. In addition, a specific monitoring service has been activated on waste disposal in the area inside and outside that settlement, where approximately 70 people of Roma ethnicity are settled."
