Fifth edition in Naples of the Pimentel Fonseca Award dedicated to migrants

The willpower of an individual to safeguard fundamental human rights. The fifth edition of the Pimentel Fonseca Award, prologue to the 'Imbavagliati' Festival conceived and directed by Désirée Klain, will be dedicated to them, the migrants. Men, women, children, without distinction of sex, age or skin color. The prestigious award will be presented on Wednesday 18 September at 18 pm at Pan | Palazzo delle Arti Napoli (Via dei Mille, 60) to Helena Maleno (Spain), a Spanish journalist, researcher and activist specialized in migration and human trafficking. She lives in Morocco where she denounces the violations of rights that occur on the southern Spanish borders and works to support sub-Saharan communities during the migration process. In honor of the historic Neapolitan Jacobin, the protagonists of the award are journalists and activists who work in defense of civil rights. During the first edition, which took place on 20 August 2015 at the Pan Museum in Naples, the award was given to Russian journalist Oksana Chelysheva, a collaborator of Novaya Gazeta, where she worked with Anna Politkovskaya. For the second edition, a woman was chosen, the voice of a people who have always fought for independence. Meanwhile, it was the Spanish actor Carlos Bardem, brother of Oscar winner Javier and Mónica, who collected the “2017 Pimentel Fonseca Award”. The award, now in its third edition, was given to the mother Pilar Bardem, the legendary actress, already awarded the prestigious Goya, who, like her children, has long been a tireless activist for civil rights. During the 2018 edition, dedicated to Daphne Caruana Galizia, the award was given to her friend and Maltese journalist Caroline Muscat. Furthermore, for the first time, the Pimentel Fonseca “Honoris Causa” Award was awarded to Olga Rodríguez, a Spanish journalist and activist. “Imbavagliati – International Festival of Civil Journalism” is produced by the Cultural Association “Periferie del Mondo – Periferia Immaginaria” and promoted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Naples and by the Polis Foundation of the Campania Region for the innocent victims of crime and confiscated property. It is produced in collaboration with: National Press Federation, Usig Rai, Campania Single Journalists' Union, Article 21, with the high patronage of Amnesty International and UNICEF Italy.
