The match moved at a good pace in the opening minutes, with the Sannitana team taking the lead: Coda started at full speed, advancing to the edge of the penalty area and unleashing a right-footed shot that just missed the top corner. The individual duels were very interesting, with Kiyine and Insigne in particular, with the two often out-dribbling. It was the brother of the more famous Lorenzo who had a huge chance in the 34th minute: a glaring error from Di Tacchio coming out gave the ball to Coda. The center forward passed to Insigne in the box, but the latter was unlucky and sent the ball just wide. Salernitana ended the first half without any interesting opportunities. The second half opened with Kiyine on fire: after a stunning move down the left, the Moroccan double-stepped and delivered a delightful cross for Giannetti to head home. The number 32 misdirected the ball, which went high. After another four minutes, in the 55th minute, it was Jallow's turn to scare the Sannio defense with a beautiful but imprecise flying turn. But a goal was in the air, and it wasn't from the Granata: Viola received the ball at the edge of the area and unleashed a superb left-footed shot that found the top corner on the opposite side. After 1-0, Benevento doubled their lead after just four minutes: Sau, escaping Kiyine's marking, capitalized on Maggio's fine through ball. Salernitana was out of contention: with just minutes to go, Coda nearly made it 4-4 in favor of the Sannio team.
