Story Riders is back, the event now in its fifth edition, with the patronage of the Municipality of Torchiara, the Province of Salerno, the Campania Region and the Cilento National Park, which transforms Torchiara into the town of stories. For three days, from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October, in the Hall of Mirrors of the Palazzo Baronale de Conciliis, representatives of the world of theater, cinema, literature, art and journalism will alternate to tell their stories on three central themes: female creativity on the first day, redemption on the second day, and "slow tourism", the Unesco theme of the year. The event will conclude with the awarding of literary stories sent from all over Italy to the Common People competition, organized as part of the event, together with a re-creative writing workshop.
“With this event – says Alberto Zobbi, President of the Ergo South Cultural Association that organizes the event – we have tried to create a cultural event that through words, writing, cinema re-proposes the ancient pleasure of storytelling, with the different tools that man has at his disposal”. In recent years, greats of literature and journalism have participated, such as the unforgettable Luciano de Crescenzo, the writer Marcello Veneziani, the director of Rai 2 Gennaro Sangiuliano, the director of Communications of Confindustria Alfonso Ruffo, Maris Martini, sister of the Cardinal, Don Virginio Colmegna, president of the Casa della Carità and many others.
This year the program includes other notable presences: for female creativity Lina Sastri will speak on the eve of her new show that will debut on October 10, the artist Carla Viparelli, fresh from an exhibition organized for her in Los Angeles, and Cinzia Leone winner of the Rapallo Literary Prize with “Ti rubo la vita”. Armida Parisi of Roma and Giulia Cerasoli of Chi will comment on the female stories of the first day.
The theme of redemption could not ignore the experience of the kids from Rione Sanità in Naples that will be told by Chiara Nocchetti and some of them. The director Luca Rosini who will comment on the screening of his film Paranza della Bellezza with Don Antonio Loffredo, the great architect of the “miracle” of Sanità: that is, having torn the kids off the streets inducing them to work in the recovery of their neighborhood, transforming it into one of the tourist attractions of the city of Naples. Similarly Massimiliano Capalbo will tell a similar experience lived in Calabria with the heretical enterprises carried out by young people in difficult environments.
On the last day, Michele Prisco will be remembered in his travels by his daughter Annella, who will also focus on the memory of slow travel of the past in the company of her father, bringing a nostalgic note. The journalist Marcello Napoli with the critic Francesco d'Episcopo will talk about the years of the poet Alfonso Gatto exiled in Sardinia in a sort of forced tourism. Raffaele Aragona and Cinzia Dato will return as every year, this time they will talk about the journey of an Englishman in the 700th century from London to Paris to arrive in Naples in the shadow of the Volcano. The actress Eliana Miglio will close the event, introducing and awarding the winners of the Common People competition, reserved for writers and photographers.
The re-creative writing workshop, which is free to attend, will be held by Raffaele Aragona and Daniela Fabrizi, from the Opificio di Letteratura Potenziale, which provides the possibility of producing poetic and literary works without inspiration and instead basing them on logical-mathematical rules. The creator of the event is Angela Riccio, who after a life spent in Milan as a communications manager, left the city for Cilento, where she restored the historic residence Borgo Riccio, a family property, opening it to hospitality.
“This year too – explains Angela Riccio – we have tried to create a cultural event, but also a fun one, with tastings of the great wines and excellent cheeses of Cilento. An event that through words, writing, cinema and music re-proposes the ancient pleasure of telling stories, with the different tools available to man. Telling about oneself, about one’s time. And perhaps telling, especially to those who are not lucky enough to live there, the beautiful land of Cilento, a UNESCO heritage site”.
Frequented by intellectuals and politicians, the Borgo Riccio living room has become a laboratory of thought where cultural projects for the promotion and enhancement of the entire Cilento National Park are discussed and launched. And it was precisely from the preview of Story Riders at the end of August that the project “Percorsi d'arte contemporanea” (Contemporary Art Paths) got underway, which will enrich the municipalities of the Cilento hinterland, close to the coast from Paestum to Sapri, with permanent installations curated by international artists.

Summer of tight controls in Amalfi Coast and in Cilento, where the Salerno Financial Police has turned the spotlight on the world of tourist rentals. The toll is heavy: out of dozens of inspected properties, 68 were found to be irregular, while another 49 are still under investigation. This data captures a widespread and deep-rooted phenomenon, where illegal activities and non-compliance with regulations threaten not only the healthy economy, but also the safety and rights of workers.

The investigations uncovered operators completely unknown to the tax authorities, VAT evaders, and lacking any health and safety authorizations. Tax-exempt income exceeding €100 was also discovered, indicating a parallel system that is damaging the market and public coffers. Particularly significant is the violation of the National Identification Code, mandatory since 2025: in 34 cases, it was not requested, displayed, or communicated, effectively rendering the businesses invisible to the ministerial census.

Scam alert on holiday homes in Cilento

The beauty of the Cilento, with its breathtaking coastline and charming villages, attracts thousands of tourists every year. But, unfortunately, it also attracts scammers. Fenailp Turismo has raised the alarm about summer rental fraud, a rapidly growing phenomenon that is claiming victims in Ascea, Castellabate, Palinuro, and other towns.

The scheme is now tried and tested, exploiting users' trust and their desire to find a good deal. Scammers create fake listings on online platforms, using photos of homes that actually exist, but aren't theirs. Sometimes, the images are stolen directly from social media or other rental sites. Tourists, attracted by attractive prices and the apparent reliability of the property, pay deposits of up to €800. Disappointment and a bitter surprise come when it's time to take possession of the property: the house doesn't exist or doesn't belong to the fake landlord, who has since disappeared with the money.
