Mexican authorities announced they found 119 black bags containing human remains in a well in Zapopan, Jalisco. According to forensic pathologists at the Institute of Forensic Science, the remains belong to at least 44 bodies, nine of which were reassembled: seven men and two women. According to the newspaper "La Jornada," the police were called by residents who smelled a strong odor coming from the house where the well is located. Jalisco is one of the most violent states in Mexico, where 36,000 people were killed in 2018, mostly linked to organized crime and drug trafficking.
