Singer Arisa's mother is among those under investigation in the Potenza prosecutor's office's investigation into alleged fake disabled persons. The artist's mother, 62-year-old Assunta Santarsiero from Pignola, in the Potenza province, is said to receive a disability pension of approximately €800 per month from INPS (National Institute of Social Security) due to walking difficulties. Prosecutors are focusing their attention on a total of 40 people in the investigation. The Flying Squad has issued six precautionary measures on the orders of the Potenza investigating judge. The investigation has identified several fake disabled persons, including a man who pretends to be blind, a wheelchair-bound disabled man who worked in the fields, and a woman with severe depression who performed in singing competitions. The news, anticipated this morning by the Canale 5 program "Mattino Cinque," has been confirmed by judicial circles in Potenza. Assunta Santarsiero, 62, is accused of conspiracy to commit fraud. According to the investigation documents coordinated by the Potenza Public Prosecutor's Office, she obtained disability status and the benefits of the attendance allowance "by feigning serious illnesses," preliminary investigations judge Lucio Setola wrote in his order, "that rendered her incapable of independently attending to daily activities without continuous assistance." In 2017, the woman was "accompanied by her husband and transported in a wheelchair" to the Potenza Courthouse "because she was unable to walk independently" and "at the time of the clinical examination, she demonstrated her inability to provide for her basic needs and perform daily activities without assistance," "thus misleading" the expert appointed by the civil court judge. According to investigators, however, "the wheelchair visit was clearly a setup." However, the Mobile Squad officers' tailing revealed that the woman was "able to leave the house on her own and move around independently, even taking herself to the land adjacent to her home to do some field work without needing anyone to look after her and without any documented walking difficulties."
