Journeys of hope, men and women who give life to a silent health migration. Only a few would imagine that the final destination of these journeys is not towards the northern regions of the country, but Campania. This happens for a constantly increasing disease such as lung cancer: 65% of the activity carried out at Federico II by the Department of Public Health (directed by Professor Giancarlo Troncone) in terms of
diagnosis, staging and predictive molecular pathology for lung cancer is “extra regional”. Naples is in this case an attractive hub for the whole of Southern Italy. The data emerged on the sidelines of the presentation
of a web series on lung cancer, and restores Campania to a leading role in the fight against this disease.
An important fact, because lung cancer is unfortunately a diagnosis that turns life upside down, not only for the patient, but for the entire family. And this is precisely why the web series “In famiglia all'improvviso” (directed by Christian Marazziti) was born, which addresses the issue “step by step”. Ten episodes put online on a weekly basis on the website www.infamigliaallimprovvisa.it
Gianluca Brundo and Nico Di Renzo. The initiative is promoted by Salute Donna onlus, Salute Uomo onlus and WALCE onlus.
"Today, those with lung cancer - says Umberto Malapelle, a researcher in pathological anatomy at Federico II, involved in the project - have better therapeutic prospects and a better quality of life." The team at Federico II works alongside oncologists to identify the molecular profile of tumors, a true identikit that allows the most appropriate therapies to be activated. A sort of "CSI"-style "scientific" team, which starting from the morphological analysis of the tumor has the task of identifying, if there are any, the "keys" that can make it possible to use molecular-targeted drugs. If the patient is eligible for a specific treatment, it is possible to offer less toxicity of the treatments and previously unthinkable results. This has allowed in recent years to improve both the quantity and the quantity of life of those who fall ill with lung cancer.
Naples - At the entrance to Monaldi Hospital, Patrizia Mercolino holds hope as her only certainty: "I won't give up, I'll hold on to hope until the end. A heart must arrive for my son, and he must come home. He's a warrior, he's strong." The two-year-old boy is in critical condition following the heart transplant performed on December 23rd with an organ…
"Every cockroach is beautiful in its mother's eyes" is one of the most well-known and revered proverbs in Neapolitan folk tradition. Literally meaning "every cockroach is beautiful in its mother's eyes," this phrase's significance extends far beyond its simple translation. Used for centuries in everyday Neapolitan parlance and spreading throughout Italy,...
