A Campanian at the helm of the Italian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery:
Francesco D'Andrea is the new president. The nomination will take place during the 68th Congress
of Sicpre, entitled «Border surgery, the boundaries of surgery», which will take place in
Palermo from 26 to 28 September, in the former Teatini convent (now the School of Sciences
and Economic-Social Sciences of the University of Palermo) in via Maqueda, 172. Teacher
Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Federico II University of Naples, where he also holds the
roles of director of the aggregate branch of the School of Specialization in Plastic Surgery
reconstructive and aesthetic, director of the second level university master's degree in aesthetic medicine and
director of the Plastic Surgery department of the hospital company, as well as a member of the
ministerial commission for prosthetics, D'Andrea prepares to take on another authoritative role
national assignment: «A prestigious, but above all demanding, role that I will take on with
a just and service-oriented spirit, so that all possible initiatives are put in place because
this discipline is protected – says D'Andrea – today we live in a world in which the
plastic surgery is used improperly by non-specialists and
negative consequences are then borne by the citizens. My role will therefore be to
to relate to the institutions, so that this discipline can be made increasingly safer
protection of the patient, but also of the serious professional who applies it". Among the main fields of
D'Andrea's interests: Breast reconstructive surgery, Skin cancer surgery,
Plastic surgery of trauma and trauma outcomes, Plastic surgery of formerly obese patients,
Aesthetic surgery of the face and body. Next to D'Andrea in the Sicilian capital there will be
appointment with plastic surgeons from all over Italy to discuss and update themselves on all the
aspects of the discipline: microsurgery, cosmetic surgery, tumors, laser trauma, reimplantations and
organ transplants, advanced technologies, robotic surgery, new prosthetic materials,
humanitarian medicine and specific projects aimed at young surgeons. But also some of the
world's leading experts, such as Pedro Cavadas of the Cavadas clinic in Valencia, known for
having carried out numerous pioneering interventions.
