A large-scale fire has been raging for several hours on Mount Saretto, near the town of Sarno. The flames broke out suddenly around 9:19 AM and, aided by a light wind, have spread from multiple directions along the mountain. Dozens of firefighters are on site, attempting to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes. The air is unbreathable, and many people have chosen to leave their homes as a precaution. Mayor Giuseppe Canfora is closely monitoring the firefighting operations, along with law enforcement and firefighters; residents are urged to "keep windows closed and only go out if necessary." The mayor has ordered schools to be closed tomorrow. As a precaution, residents living near the foothills affected by the Saretto fire are asked to leave their homes and go to the homes of family and friends, or alternatively to the Baccelli Institute for a safe night. Work is underway to control the fire front. Two teams, totaling 10 men, from the Salerno Province's Forest Fire Prevention Unit (AIB) are reaching the scene to support the firefighters and volunteer teams. They are in close contact with the mayor of Sarno, who has promptly activated all emergency response activities. (Sara Mareschi)
