A major, completely free event will be held on Saturday, September 14th, in San Giovanni a Piro, the town in the province of Salerno where the Spanish painter and sculptor José Ortega spent part of his life. A wonderful excursion is planned to discover the stunning surroundings of San Giovanni a Piro, culminating in a free sunset concert by Vinicio Capossela. The concert will be held at the Ciolandrea Viewpoint, overlooking the sea, also known as "The Terrace of Cilento." But the evening doesn't end there, as we'll return to the town for another concert with Pietro Cirillo and the Officine Popolari Lucane in the large Piazza Giovanni Paolo II.
“Between sky and sea” is an open-air show, lasting a whole day, divided into three acts, or rather three events that will introduce us to the historical, artistic and landscape beauties of a wonderful area of Cilento. The event for the enhancement of the village of San Giovanni a Piro is organized by Scabec and the Municipality of San Giovanni a Piro and wanted by the Campania Region.
The excursion through the beautiful lands of San Giovanni a Piro is an extraordinary narrative journey through a historical walk of the symbolic places of the town that will be held on Saturday 14 September starting at 17.00:15 with an appointment in Via Nazionale c/o Caserma Carabinieri in San Giovanni a Piro. Reservations are not mandatory but it is advisable to go to the meeting point at least XNUMX minutes before the official time indicated. Near the Caserma there is also a large free car park.
From here you head towards the Basilian Abbey, founded by the same monks at the end of the 1778th century, and then continue towards the ancient wash house from 1534 where, after several centuries, even today fresh water flows from the mouths of three marble masks. You will also arrive at the Porta Pietra Pacifica, the only one still existing of the five access gates to the town in the ancient walls, built in XNUMX by Cardinal Tommaso De Vio to protect the small town from Turkish raids. Not far away you will reach the “Manna” path, once the only connecting road between the town of San Giovanni a Piro and the Sanctuary dedicated to Maria SS. di Pietrasanta. From here, along a country path you will arrive at the Belvedere di Ciolandrea.
At sunset, on the Ciolandrea Belvedere or “The terrace of Cilento”, or also “Belvedere of the four regions”, it will be possible to admire the wonderful panorama of the Gulf of Policastro, the Lucanian coast (with the recognizable Christ of Maratea), the Calabrian coast and, on the clearest days, the Sicilian island of Stromboli. The Belvedere insists on the perimeter of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park and overlooks, overlooking the sea, the Costa degli Infreschi and Masseta Marine Protected Area. In this wonderful place, at sunset, “the Rite” will be celebrated with the “Ballads for men and beasts” by Vinicio Capossela. An extraordinary event that will be held on the Ciolandrea Plateau, a living monument to this impressive transit of civilizations that has crossed the millennia.
The third and final part of the day features the evening concert in town. In Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, Pietro Cirillo will perform with the Officine popolari Lucane in “Sangue Lucano”, the final act of a journey that celebrates the song of a generation that has not failed, but is the daughter of a failure, raising a cry of rebirth and change in music.
