“Unfortunately,” begins Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori Colliri, “after the summer break, with the resumption of activities, including school ones, in Vomero we find ourselves with the same problems as always, with petty crime and even more aggressive baby gangs, as demonstrated by the serious episode, the latest in the series to hit the headlines, involving a minor who, according to news reports, risked being beaten to a pulp by a gang of about twenty peers and who was saved thanks to the timely intervention of the police. Problems that add to those generated by organized crime, making the hilly neighborhood unlivable,” says Capodanno. “Unfortunately, the raids by these youngsters who come from the suburbs on weekends, often using the hilly metro, continue, without anyone being able to put a stop to them. Episodes of unprecedented gravity that also bring up the issue of changing the legislation regarding the punishability of Minors who, given their behaviors that blatantly emulate those of the Camorra bosses, should be arrested and held in prison and not escorted home, when they can be caught, with at most a slap on the wrist. "Now," continues Capodanno bitterly, "the affair will be in the news for a few days, only to then end in absolute silence without any measures being taken to stem these frequent criminal episodes that see the Vomero area attacked by thugs and scoundrels, often looking for a fight or brawl. Sometimes, as episodes in the recent past demonstrate, even armed with clubs and knives."

“More or less similar events are the order of the day. Not only that, but now the frightened and distrustful citizens, wrongly, do not even report the numerous harassments to which they are subjected – continues Capodanno -. They are afraid, given that in the neighborhood they still remember the serious episode, one of many, of a man who had gone to pick up his daughter with his car and who in Piazza Vanvitelli was beaten to a pulp for having politely asked to move a scooter that was obstructing the passage of the car. The man, beaten by the gang that was permanently stationed in the square, under the terrified eyes of his daughter, remained hospitalized for a long time and had to have his spleen removed. Only two of the criminals were identified and tried. Sentenced, instead of left to rot in the prisons of their country, they were sent to house arrest.” English: "Vomero appears to have been transformed into a new metropolitan Bronx, a no man's land, where, especially at certain times of the day, no surveillance is observed. Moreover, despite the numerous video surveillance camera stations installed in the neighborhood, the security situation does not seem to benefit in any way and the incursions of hooligans and delinquents continue as if nothing had happened," Capodanno points out. "For too long now, we have not been able to put a stop to petty crime and baby gangs, which are invading the hilly neighborhood and are becoming more and more arrogant day by day." "Moreover, for years now, residents, who now stay indoors on Saturdays and Sundays and avoid walking around the streets of their neighborhood, have been hoping that the service with the State Police's mobile camper, which was carried out for a short time and with excellent results in the past, will be reinstated in Piazza Vanvitelli or in the nearby pedestrian area," Capodanno concludes. Furthermore, it is necessary to restore the figures of the policeman and the local carabiniere, who have disappeared for some time now. Unfortunately, up to now, all appeals made in this regard have remained unheard. Therefore, in the absence of adequate measures, the only law that continues to govern the Vomero neighborhood, unfortunately in agony also with regard to security, seems to be the one imposed by micro and macro delinquency. " On the serious situation that is recorded in Vomero, also demonstrated by the latest events, Capodanno calls for a special meeting of the Provincial Committee for Security and Public Order in order, in particular, to put a stop to the rapidly expanding phenomenon of the presence of baby gangs.
