“If it is not possible to live in a dignified manner, I prefer assisted suicide”. The provocation launched by Antonio Tessitore, a 43-year-old from Villa Literno who has been suffering from ALS for over fifteen years, is strong: today Tessitore protested in front of the headquarters of the ASL of Caserta, and uttered words full of anger and frustration, denouncing his personal situation. “At present – ​​he explains – the staff assigned to me is only three people over the course of 24 hours, an insufficient number; furthermore, the training is done at my expense, and lasts for indefinite periods, depending on the skills of the operators who assist me”. The difficulties lie in the fact that the Social Sector, formed by the Municipalities, which contributes 50% of the financial contribution to the assistance projects, does not provide funds to the cooperative that runs the service: “This obviously has repercussions on the staff, as the cooperative does not have the money to hire or permanently classify the employees; and we patients are the ones who pay the highest price."
