Naples. Since mid-September in the areas of via Salvator Rosa, via Girolamo Santacroce, piazza Leonardo and piazza Immacolata, the Carabinieri of the Vomero company and the dependent stations have been monitoring the territory even more intensely to prevent crimes in general but in particular "snatching" and robberies. Patrols, checkpoints and searches have often resulted in arrests, seizures and reports. To date, 112 patrols with more than 220 Carabinieri have been deployed. During the operations, 930 people were stopped - and therefore identified and often searched. During the checks carried out shortly after midnight on 25 September, a man was stopped by the military during a checkpoint on via Girolamo Santacroce, in the Avvocata neighborhood. He was traveling on his scooter with his wife and 5-year-old son sitting between them and the latter two were not wearing helmets. While the military were identifying him and completing the checks, he took his cell phone and filmed them live on social media. He falsely claimed to have been stopped while he was accompanying his son to the pediatric emergency room of the “Santobono” hospital and offended the police. The video was shared by several private and public profiles: it has recorded over 260 thousand views and has been commented on over 1.500 times. In the vast majority of cases, users have commented negatively on the conduct of the author of the video.
The first arrest was that of an 18-year-old from the Traiano district, Carlo Piscopo. At 2 am he was noticed and stopped on via Caldieri; he was in possession of 7 doses of marijuana and 90 euros believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing. He hid another 23 doses at home along with a precision scale and several sachets. A few days later two criminals - a 22-year-old from Vomero and a 19-year-old from Arenella - were reported as the recognized perpetrators of a smartphone "snatch" committed at 22 pm on September 17 in largo celebrano to the detriment of a 23-year-old criminal. A few days later, on a Saturday evening, again at around 22 pm, 2 criminals with their faces covered had stopped a 15-year-old student, robbing him of his cell phone.
The boy had asked for help and provided the description of one of the 2 so within a few minutes the carabinieri, on patrol for the anti-robbery service, in the vicinity of the place where the robbery had taken place, stopped a subject who corresponded to the description. He was a 36-year-old from Vomero with a criminal record who was walking around with a switchblade; he was not the perpetrator of that robbery but the military identified him as the person responsible for another robbery for which, however, the victim has not yet presented himself to file a complaint.
The next morning a 17-year-old from Vomero reported to the local station that the previous evening while he was in via Salvator Rosa he had been approached by two individuals with their faces covered; under threats they had made him hand over his cell phone. In this case too the carabinieri identified them in a short time, thanks also to some witnesses who were not afraid to say what they had seen. Diego Infante, 18, and Antonio Ferrante, 21, both already known to the police, had already been arrested that same night by the police but in any case they will also be charged with this additional crime.
The 17-year-old's cell phone was also recovered and returned.
Again. days later, again at the Vomero-Arenella station, an 18 year old student from Vomero showed up to report that on the evening of Saturday 21st he was walking along via conte dell'Acerra when he was approached by 2 criminals. this time too, with their faces covered and under threat, they had taken possession of the smartphone and 10 euros and for this episode too the perpetrator was identified as Diego Infante.
In Piazza Leonardo, a 43-year-old criminal from Via Nuova Toscanella was stopped during a traffic check. He was riding a scooter despite not having a license and the vehicle not being insured and he also insulted the police while trying to get his documents back, so he was fined for traffic violations and reported. A 22-year-old from the Stella neighborhood was carrying a switchblade when he was noticed and stopped by the Carabinieri along Via Salvator Rosa. He was riding a scooter and had the knife already open, ready to use. He has many previous convictions for street robbery armed with a knife - as was revealed by the police investigations - so it is likely that he was looking for prey. He was therefore reported and the knife was seized.
That same evening, a 56-year-old from the Stella neighborhood, under special surveillance, was stopped while riding a scooter along via Girolamo Santacroce with another criminal. The Carabinieri stopped him and reported him. During the services, the Carabinieri of the Vomero company also reported a 36-year-old from the San Lorenzo neighborhood, already known to the police, for violation of privacy, insult and defamation.
