Carabinieri officers in charge of food protection seized over 200 kg of untraceable food products throughout Italy, lacking clear and comprehensible labels. Operation "Crudo" was conducted nationwide by the Turin, Parma, Rome, Salerno, and Messina units targeting restaurants that handle raw food products. The inspection, conducted at 26 restaurants from September 26 to 30, found that seafood intended for raw consumption had not been properly slaughtered. Fourteen administrative fines totaling €24.068 were assessed. The owners of two restaurants were charged with attempted fraud and aggravated commercial fraud, respectively, for failing to list frozen products on their menus, passing them off as fresh, or for claiming to serve calamari, prawns, and crabs when, in reality, they were serving squid, shrimp, and surimi to customers.
