The children of the Spartak San Gennaro soccer team returned to play in Naples' Piazza Municipio to demand that the mayor, as promised by the city administration, open the municipal spaces and pitches to allow their leaders to organize sports activities. The symbolic protest, as the volunteers who support the children explain, arose after the team was denied access to the soccer pitch in the "Parco dei Quartiere Spagnoli." "After the relevant councilor granted permission to use the pitch," explains one of the leaders, "we were only able to access the facility twice. Then, a few days ago, without warning, we found the park closed. The only message was a sign on the gate, warning us that the area was only open in the mornings." "A paradox," the volunteers note, "since the children go to school in the mornings." "Now we're asking to speak directly with the mayor," announce the youth leaders and parents gathered in the square, while the children continue to play soccer on the makeshift pitch in front of Palazzo San Giacomo. "To see if this administration is truly sensitive to the needs of these kids, many of whom come from at-risk neighborhoods and disadvantaged families." Meanwhile, some of the children Spartak San Gennaro had managed to involve in the team have left. "So, without a soccer ball, we're struggling to retain them. We use soccer as a catalyst; it helps us with our work. We've put ours on the field. Now it's up to the mayor."
