Starting Wednesday, October 2, 2019, security at the Pompeii Archaeological Park will be strengthened by activating a checkpoint at the Piazza Anfiteatro entrance.
The control system will be developed in several stages. An initial check will be carried out at the entrance gates to detect the presence of any dangerous materials.
Subsequently, through a path marked by columns with tape, you will access the second checkpoint, located inside one of the two semi-circles, where baggage scanning and x-ray checks on visitors will take place, using special machines. In support of the checkpoint, there will be some units of specialized armed security personnel to assist with the control operations and monitor any risk situations.
At the same time, the cloakroom service will also be strengthened to allow the mandatory storage of bulkier luggage. Furthermore, in order to speed up the entry of visitors to the site, the ticket service will be expanded with new special self-service machines to allow the automatic purchase of entrance tickets.
With the activation of these new prevention and control systems, which will be added to the existing and active surveillance and video surveillance systems of the excavations, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii takes a further step forward in the direction of an increasingly safe and protected archaeological area.
After a trial period, these devices will also be installed at the entrances of Porta Marina and Piazza Esedra.
