The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, following the intensification of economic control activities in the territory, has seized, in recent weeks, between Naples, Arzano, San Nicola la Strada and Teverola, 6.100 items of counterfeit clothing, shoes and accessories for a value of over 200 thousand euros. The Guardia di Finanza of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Naples have targeted some suspicious shipments of goods from foreign countries (in particular Eastern Europe) carried out through the most well-known international couriers; in particular, following the constant analysis activity conducted by the specialists of the Gruppo Tutela Mercato Beni e Servizi, the "serial" recipients of counterfeit goods, wholesalers of fake clothing and accessories, have been identified. The latter, in turn, resell the imported products mainly to non-EU citizens, who offer the designer fakes in the shopping streets of Naples, as well as in the local markets of Campania.
The seizures carried out by the Guardia di Finanza involved belts, bags, t-shirts, sweatshirts, as well as footwear and perfumes bearing well-known commercial brands and would have brought in over 200.000 euros on the illegal market; those who ended up in trouble were three Senegalese citizens living in Naples and two Italians, one resident in Naples, the other in Marcianise, all reported at large for receiving stolen goods and possession of counterfeit products.
Investigations continue to identify the supply channels of illegal goods, as well as other subjects involved. Counterfeiting, a phenomenon that is always flourishing in Campania, is a multiplier of illegality, which fuels multiple sectors of the underground economy, such as the circuit of "black work", illegal immigration, tax evasion and "dirty" money laundering. In this regard, the operational effort of the Corps is aimed at dismantling the entire distribution chain of counterfeit goods and tracing the production hubs, so much so that the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, in the first 9 months of the year, in the specific sector, seized 36 million items of counterfeit and unsafe products, arrested 4 responsible persons, reported 544 subjects at large to the Judicial Authority and reported 186 to the administrative Authorities.
The items seized mainly included consumer goods, electronic products, toys and clothing from well-known designer brands.
By purchasing counterfeit goods, the counterfeit market is fueled and criminal gangs, including ethnic ones, who control the distribution of such goods are enriched, while at the same time taking away resources and opportunities from healthy operators who respect the rules.
