“A citizen reported to us that approximately 1200 tin cans, containing diesel residue and rags, used to create torches for the feast of San Michele, are lying abandoned on the seven cliffs of Sant'Angelo d'Ischia. Despite the festival being held on September 29 and 30, they have not yet been removed, unlike what happened during previous editions of the festival. The bad weather of the last few days, with heavy rain and increased wave motion, has meant that many of the cans have ended up in the sea. There is therefore a risk of a real environmental emergency due to neglect”. This was announced by the regional councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli and the commissioner of the Sole che Ride for the island of Ischia Mariarosaria Urraro. “We have sent a note to the municipal administration of Serrara Fontana to ask them to proceed with the rapid removal of the cans that are still on the rocks. There is no time to waste before the waves and rain make them all end up in the sea”.
