For all professionals and for the curious who want to follow the growth of sports betting in Italy, the data relating to the first half of 2019 were presented. Betting remains one of the healthiest sectors of our peninsula, recording a clear and significant growth compared to last year. The ranking of the main bookmakers remains almost unchanged, once again seeing Bet365 in first place, followed by SKS365 and Snaitech.
Great results closed out an amazing May.
Not everyone would have expected good results from the betting sector due to the new rules presented and, almost, introduced by the Dignity Decree which aimed to limit the advertising of gambling as well as blocking sponsorship contracts of professional teams but sports betting has exceeded even the rosiest expectations.
The semester closed with a bang in May where there was an increase in total spending of 37,7% compared to 2018, reaching 56,2 million Euros. These were added to the numbers of the previous months, bringing betting to 310,8 million, equivalent to 18,4% more than the first semester of 2018.
The winnings withdrawn by players were also very high, reaching 86,6% of total bets in May. As for the total collection, combining the data from online and agency bets, we have already come very close to the threshold of one billion Euros with winnings exceeding 866 million.

Bet365 confirms itself once again as a leader in online betting.
AGCOM has also published all the data relating to the main bookmakers operating in Italy from which it is possible to extract the ranking that we report below. Once again, the one that recorded the highest earnings was Bet365, a world-famous English company, which won a market share of 13,6% and declared a gross revenue of 7,6 million euros. The Maltese operator SKS365 follows very closely behind with a share of 13,3%. Further behind we find Snaitech, born from the acquisition of SNAI by Playtech, with 12,1% and a gross revenue of 6,8 million Euros. However, Snaitech has a much greater presence in the physical agency sector where it remains the most widespread and profitable in Italy. Other operators that have recorded good results are Sisal, 9,7% and 5,5 million in gross revenue, Goldbet at 8,5% and Eurobet with 7,4%.
The sports betting sector continues to grow relentlessly, giving strength to the Italian economy despite the many controversies still ongoing between politicians and companies in the sector for the proposed changes. However, we will have to wait for the formation of a new government to understand which ones will actually be implemented and which ones will end up being thrown away and forgotten.
