“A citizen reported to us a video showing some people smoking with impunity inside a carriage on the Benevento-Naples line. As is known, smoking is prohibited inside public transport, but the uncivilized people don't care and continue as if nothing had happened. Abstaining from smoking, in addition to being a form of compliance with the law, is also a gesture of respect towards other travellers. But these individuals, evidently, combine incivility and rudeness. This case, among other things, is not the most serious. It seems absurd to say it but the phenomenon continues even inside hospitals”. This is what the regional councilor of the Greens and member of the Health Commission Francesco Emilio Borrelli says. “Some time ago we sent a note to all the Local Health Authorities and hospitals to ask how many fines were issued for violating the smoking ban. Only the Cardarelli hospital company responded, informing us that – in the hospital – more than one hundred fines had been issued. We therefore contacted the Prevention Management Operations Unit of the General Directorate for Health Protection of the Campania Region to ask how many fines had actually been paid. We were told that, in two years, only 9 sanctions had been paid. We therefore asked to send payment orders to all those who had not made the payment, according to the methods established by law”.
