Cardito. "It's not just the Land of Fires, but also the circle of Hell," said Don Vittorio, parish priest of the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Frattamaggiore, after this morning's attack. The priest, interviewed by Agi, said: "My first question was 'why? I'm just a priest.' But the real question I'm asking myself now. To what level of barbarism must we descend before we understand that this land of ours has become a circle of hell, in reverse, where the righteous pay for the sins of the wicked? This isn't just the 'Land of Fires'; it's much more, much more." He then recounts the attack that occurred this morning, in broad daylight, with five gunshots fired at his home in Cardito: "Five gunshots at 11:5 a.m., in front of my apartment," he says. "One of the shots broke the glass and landed in the study where I was reading and preparing for this evening's adoration, and it was purely by chance that it missed me." As for the motives that could have triggered an intimidation attack against him, Don Vittorio has no opinion: "I honestly don't know a possible motive; I even told the police."
