UEFA has opened an investigation into the repeated racist chants that led to the Bulgaria-England match in Sofia last night being twice suspended.

English Football Association president Greg Clarke himself, calling what happened at the Levski Stadium "shameful and horrific," confirmed that European football's governing body had opened an investigation. "I spoke to UEFA delegates both during the match and at halftime, and also afterward," Clarke said. "I was told that investigations will be conducted to ensure these shameful scenes of appalling racism are properly assessed."
