NIn carrying out targeted territorial control services aimed at protecting environmental matrices, the military personnel of the Agropoli Forestry Carabinieri Station discovered an illegal waste management site in the municipality of Agropoli in the locality Marrotte.
The military, suspicious of a column of smoke, went to the area of origin of the same and identified some burning waste and surprised a foreign citizen of Moroccan origin burning it. They also discovered scattered in the area piles of waste of various kinds such as parts of vehicles, car radios, household appliances, inert materials and waste from construction work, plastics, wood, cardboard and clothing. Some of this waste, awkwardly deposited, had slipped down the slope of the hill until it reached the banks of the Testene river.
Furthermore, in a shed adjacent to the yard where the waste was stored, the military found other waste and cars undergoing repairs. The investigations on the site allowed them to identify the owner of the area and to ascertain that the waste management activity was completely illegal as it lacked any environmental authorization and that even the bodywork work was being carried out without any communication or authorization.
Following what emerged and the violations ascertained, namely the illegal burning of waste, the abandonment and uncontrolled storage of waste, the illegal exercise of the car body shop activity, the military proceeded to seize the entire area of approximately 2.500 square meters and reported those responsible to the Judicial Authority.
