Waiting for the effects of the Dignity Decree: this is how the issue of gambling numbers in Italy could be summarized. The official data speak of a clear growth, which was released by the Customs and Monopolies Agency in its 2018 Blue Book, a true statistical report of all the activities controlled by the government body.
Well, these numbers speak of a clear growth, equal to +11% in the three-year period 2016-2018, thanks to which the induced realized stabilizes at a figure of 106 billion euros. We are obviously talking here of the entire gaming sector subject to control by the ADM, the State Monopolies to be precise.
The numbers specifically speak of greater growth for some online games such as slot machines, bingo, betting exchange, sports betting and horse racing.
The biggest growth is online
In general, the entire remote gaming sector is on the rise, with an increase of around 80% in the three-year period 2016-2018.

Online is growing faster than physical gaming, but numbers show that the latter mode still has the majority of the market share: all remote games reach 1/3 of the total figure, while the remaining 2/3 are related to Bar Slots (VLT, AWP and New Slots), Lotto, Lotteries and Superenalotto.
The Question of Responsible Gaming
There is another interesting aspect when talking about the topic, namely Responsible Gaming. A rather broad concept that refers to the different policies implemented at a regulatory level to ensure that those involved in the gaming business respect high safety standards. This is to protect players from the danger of scams.
Well, in Italy the Dignity Decree was recently introduced by the Conte 1 Government, the one with the League and the 5 Star Movement. The effects will be measurable in a year, since they will refer to 2019. What is certain is that, as reported in an article by Machineslotonline (source: www.machineslotonline.it/news/italia-e-il-gioco-2018-la-passione-continua/), a good part of the tax revenue came from bar slot machines in 2018, 6 billion euros compared to just over 530 million from online slot machines.
The article therefore asks whether the campaign against pathological gambling should not aim to reduce the expenditure of Bar Slots rather than that of Online Slot Machines.
