The Carabinieri of the Giugliano company have tracked down and arrested the fugitive Antonio Basile, a 49-year-old from Giugliano considered close to the Mallardo clan.
He had been on the run since the Milan court issued a custodial order for criminal association aimed at bank robberies, kidnapping and receiving stolen goods; he had been formally a fugitive since October 30.
Basile is believed, together with other individuals already arrested, to be the organizer and perpetrator of 2 robberies in Milanese banks.
on march 27, 2018, he entered a branch of the banca popolare di milano with a hood pulled down over his face, then, under the threat of a crowbar and awls, stole valuables worth approximately 23 thousand euros. to cover his escape, he locked the manager and two employees in the bathroom.
on may 2 he targeted another branch of the banca popolare di milano. in that case too he used a crowbar and held a screwdriver to the manager's throat. he fled with 16.500 euros, 1.600 swiss francs, 1.100 pounds and the contents of 35 safety deposit boxes in which valuables worth more than a million euros were kept.
the carabinieri located him in a two-family house along the coastal strip of giugliano in campania. outside he had installed hidden cameras to anticipate the movements of the police. in the house the carabinieri seized cash and a wig.
