CThe activity of combating the phenomenon of thefts of "red gold" started by the Railway Police Department for Campania continues, which has registered a dizzying reduction in the phenomenon in recent years, with a substantial drop in thefts even, in contrast, in periods in which the value of copper on the market has reached the peak of the highest quotations. After the seizure of 10 tons of copper that occurred a month ago at a ferrous scrap recovery company based in the province of NAPLES, yesterday the Polfer police officers proceeded to seize another 300 kg of copper in cable sections that specialized technical personnel of the Railways recognized as material in use by the Italian State Railways. English: Checks carried out at scrap dealers and companies specializing in the disposal of ferrous waste have led to the discovery among the material stored at a company based in the Caserta area, of pieces of copper cables, shielded and sheathed, in quadripolar and tripolar sections with a total weight of approximately 300 kg, of which the owner was unable to specify the origin. The company in fact does not have the mandatory form where all movements of special waste are recorded, such as, in this case, the scrap of copper cables which, analyzed by the railway technicians, were found to be the same ones used in the plants of FS Italiane. The lack of both the form that allows the traceability of the material, and of any purchase invoices, allowed the Railway Police officers to proceed with the seizure of the copper and to report the company director for receiving stolen goods as well as falsification of registers and violation of the regulations on the management of special waste. As recently highlighted by data released by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the phenomenon of copper thefts in Campania has undergone a significant reduction. In fact, the statistics, which have examined the illicit theft of cables of valuable material from 2000 to today, have allowed to record, in percentage, 58% less thefts, attributing to the Railway Police of NAPLES, also thanks to the collaboration with the Corporate Protection of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and with the territorial offices of the Police Forces, the achievement of the best result of the last twenty years.
