IBoss Salvatore Belforte was sentenced to 16 years in prison this afternoon before the Gup of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere court, Ivana Salvatore, for the murder of Orlando Carbone. The prosecutor Turco had requested a sentence of thirty years, the maximum penalty. The abbreviated trial was held at the request of the defense, attorney Salvatore Piccolo, even though the new rules do not provide for the alternative trial for this crime, but it was granted because the judge deemed 'the law most favorable to the offender should be applied in the case of succession of laws over time' and granted mitigating circumstances. The crime occurred in 1986 when the District Anti-Mafia Directorate had not yet been established and therefore it was possible to hold the trial at the ordinary territorial court. The remains of Orlando Carbone's bones were found in the countryside of Marcianse in April 2015 by Salvatore Belforte, a few months after the collaboration. The boss later lost the protection program because he lied about the death of Angela Gentile, a woman who disappeared by lupara bianca in 1991 because she was the lover of his brother Domenico Belforte. For this reason the Prosecutor's Office of Napoli, by order of the Ministry of the Interior and the provisions of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, decided to revoke the protection of the clan leader Salvatore Belforte. This morning the defendant was present via video conference at the reading of the ruling
