Presented by ArteTeca, Laprimamericana and Teatro Segreto, the play is the theatrical transposition of the autobiographical book Sparviero – La mia storia (Edizioni Sperling&Kupfer), which the Neapolitan champion wrote together with his nephew Fabio Rocco Oliva.
Patrizio Oliva experiments, on stage, with the role of actor, never actually taking off the clothes most congenial to him, and his determination to punch, more than his opponents, the wounds of life, have made his sporting career inescapable.
At her side, Rossella Pugliese, in the role of mother, sketches the portrait of a Calabrese woman accustomed to sacrifice, but strongly bent by a painful and unchangeable burden.
The protagonist likens the stage to a ring, a metaphor for the many times life has tried, sometimes succeeding, to punch Patrizio, an emblem of the golden age of boxing, almost a “God” with his 155 victories out of 160 matches fought.
He is a man with his gloves permanently on guard and his gaze always fixed on challenging obstacles, crises, family breakdowns and the never-ending pain of the premature loss of his brother Mario.
Patrizio vs Oliva is all this, but above all it is the story of how a child, born in Via Stadera and marked internally by the loss of male reference figures, manages with tenacity, sweat and sacrifice to keep faith with the promise made not to take bad paths and to let himself be saved by competitive spirit understood as a healthy value.
In the open ring of a theater, his story tells of the vicissitudes, the crises, the obstacles that at every step make one doubt, even for just a moment, that destiny is already written.
The stage “reveals” the completeness and complexity of those who, round after round, have won in life as in sport: a splendid and natural evolution of the champion of yesterday into the man of today.
The staging makes use of the stage space curated by Daniele Stella, the costumes by Giuseppe Avallone, the drawings and illustrations by Daniele Bigliardo, the music by Stefano Gargiulo.
