Ennesimo muro contro muro nella maggioranza sulla riforma della giustizia. On the statute of limitations, the positions of the Democratic Party and Italia Viva on one side and the M5S on the other remain distant. After the accusation that came yesterday from Luigi Di Maio who pointed the finger at his allies, accusing them of "doing like the League" and shielding the entry into force of the stop to trials after the first degree sentence, today it is Giuseppe Conte who intervenes. “Compared to the solution that comes into force in January 2020, whereby the statute of limitations ceases after a first-instance ruling, at this time there is no particular immediate risk because the issues would come to a head after the crime has been ascertained, in the years to come,” says the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister, in fact, also underlines the "need to ensure an adequate system of guarantees to respect the constitutional constraint of the reasonable duration of trials", but seems to side with Di Maio and Bonafede: "I think it is right that the statute of limitations exists, because it sends the signal that in Italy judicial investigations are completed with acquittal or conviction. But there is a need to accompany the rule with a system of guarantees on the reasonable duration of trials and I am convinced that with the agreement of all political forces we will find a solution". The solution, however, is far from close and from the Nazareno "concern" is filtering through. The Democrats are still hoping for Conte's mediation, but they underline that the mediation solutions proposed so far by Bonafede "are not at all satisfactory. We reiterate the invitation to postpone the entry into force of the new statute of limitations. For us, the reform of trials and the rules on statute of limitations cannot but be addressed together – says Michele Bordo, who has the dossier in hand and who has participated in all the majority's discussions so far – The idea of proceeding with the abolition of the statute of limitations without first having verified the effects produced by the justice reform on the length of trials is truly senseless”. “Di Maio should get rid of the idea that the M5S dictates the government's agenda of measures and that the PD limits itself to just voting for them. On the statute of limitations, for example, it is essential to guarantee certain and short times for the duration of trials", echoes - with a hard face - the president of the Pd senators, Andrea Marcucci. For the Nazareno, however, despite the good intentions also announced by Beppe Grillo on the stability of the executive, "the attitude of the five stars has not changed. They look for any excuse to go to war, and that's not how it goes." Italia Viva is also on the warpath: “I don’t understand what pushed Prime Minister Conte, who is good and attentive on other issues, to make such a hasty and imprudent statement, but he should know that on this issue he will encounter opposition from many in Parliament, including mine. As they say: No pasaran, you will not pass”, says Gianfranco Librandi. Also pressing the PD and IV is FI, which with Enrico Costa has presented a proposal to block the statute of limitations reform and is now asking those who declare themselves against what is provided for by the 'Spazza corrotti' law to vote for the text. “Conte and Bonafede reiterate that the statute of limitations freeze will come into force on January 1, 2020 and there will be no postponements. At this point the Democratic Party, which has raised barricades, risks losing face", insists the former Deputy Minister of Justice.
