The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, is the epilogue of an investigative activity by the Carabinieri of Vairano Scalo, carried out between February and September 2018. It all began with the theft of a car near the Vairano-Caianello train station and then involved several episodes of vehicle thefts committed by the gang, at least 8 successful and three attempted. The raids took place in the provinces of Caserta, Naples and Latina.
According to what was ascertained by the investigators, the gang moved between the provinces using Luca Iodice's car and, after having located the vehicles, all newly registered and therefore of considerable value, they carried out the robbery. From the investigations, carried out through stakeouts and tailing but also through constant interception activity, it emerged that the criminal organization, in order to implement its operations, had purchased the plug, worth approximately 600 euros, in order to decode the keys of the targeted cars and allow them to be started easily. The only impediment for the gang were the steering wheel lock devices.
Furthermore, a sort of common fund had been set up to cover the costs of recruiting new members, to be paid, to drive the stolen cars to the receivers, while waiting to make any requests for a return horse. The stolen cars were then taken to Secondigliano or Casoria where they were subjected to “reclamation”, that is, the removal of any satellite devices.
According to investigators, the gang was well organized with planned robberies. The plan of action was to steal 5 cars a day from Monday to Thursday; leaving Friday for delivery to the receivers. Saturday and Sunday free.
The profits were equally divided among the members, about 250 euros for each stolen car, while occasional participants were given a “bribe” of 50 euros for each car. Overall, the loot from the stolen cars is around 100 thousand euros. During the investigations, the Carabinieri found and returned to their owners 5 stolen vehicles.
