AThe long-awaited new mystery novel by Maurizio De Giovanni, 'Nozze per i Bastardi di Pizzofalcone', will be released tomorrow and will be officially presented next Monday at the Diana Theater in Naples. In the new chapter of the series, we will find one of the most famous investigative teams in Italian fiction, which includes Inspector Lojacono and all the other members of the Pizzofalcone Police Station. The novel will follow a new investigative case, that of the discovery of the body of a naked girl, with a wedding dress floating near the body. In the cold and gloomy climate of February, Lojacono and the Bastards will find themselves entangled in a murder that has neither head nor tail, that has one or too many explanations. Many secrets will come to light, and the mystery of the "girl from the cave" will become increasingly controversial. But the most important question is not who killed the young woman, but why he did it a moment before the most important day of her life. The new book is the tenth to revolve around the figure of Inspector Lojacono who, on a par with Commissioner Ricciardi, is one of De Giovanni's best-made characters. The novels in the series, inspired by those of the "87 District" by American author Ed McBain, are set in a contradictory Naples, made up of lush buildings and council houses, in which the Pizzofalcone neighborhood team has been implicated in a scandal and therefore replaced by less prepared agents from neighboring offices, including Lojacono. The Pizzofalcone saga, which fits into the "Police Procedural" genre, lends itself well to television transposition, and for this reason it inspired the Rai series of the same name in 2017. While waiting for the new book, there is silence surrounding the possibility that the story of the "girl from the cave" will appear in the third season of the TV series, confirmed last year. The first two seasons, broadcast on Rai 1 and directed by Carlo Carlei (first season) and Alessandro D'Alatri (second season), had a boom in ratings, and convinced the production company to continue with the project. In particular, the last episode had caused a lot of talk on social media, for the final explosion involving Alessandro Gassmann (in the role of Inspector Lojacono) and Carolina Crescentini (the prosecutor Piras). But it was the director of Rai Fiction Eleonora Andreatta who lifted the reservation on the third season and calmed the fans' spirits: "The development of the third series is already in preparation, which will return to show our protagonists, among which we must include a Napoli unpublished and full of humanity”. Due to the free nature of the television adaptation – which uses elements scattered throughout the various novels in the series – it is unclear which cases will be tackled in the new season, and whether or not De Giovanni has been in contact with the new director about details on the upcoming novel. The only certainty so far concerns the start of filming, confirmed in a tweet by Alessandro Gassmann last month: “Well yes. The Bastards of Pizzofalcone third season”. It is also unclear whether or not 'Wedding for the Bastards of Pizzofalcone' will be the last chapter in the saga. But considering that De Giovanni's longest series – that of Commissioner Ricciardi – consisted of 12 books, it makes you think that we are now on the home stretch. 'Wedding for the Bastards of Pizzofalcone', expected in bookstores tomorrow, will be distributed by Einaudi.
