He felt ill in his van. It seems he was on his way to the doctor, due to an illness that had been bothering him for a few hours. Alarm bells that were unfortunately perhaps underestimated. The fact is that Sebastiano Vaccarisi, a sixty-year-old bricklayer originally from Avola in the province of Salerno, who has lived in Sovigliana di Vinci for twenty years, never made it to the doctor. His heart stopped beating on the street yesterday morning, while he was walking along Lungarno Battisti. It was not yet 11 when the rescue team was alerted by a volunteer from the Misericordia di Empoli section of Sovigliana. The volunteer was walking down the street, given that the association's headquarters is located not far from the site of the tragedy, when he noticed the unfortunate 60-year-old in the van, collapsed, motionless.
The 118 operations center was contacted: the operators sent a medical car and an ambulance to the scene. The man was extracted from the vehicle and laid down so that resuscitation could be started. Attempts to save him from death continued for over an hour, but were in vain. There was nothing that could be done for the bricklayer, known and respected in the hamlet where he lived with his wife, son and daughter, the latter still at home with her parents. His heart never started beating again, despite the efforts of the rescuers and the life-saving maneuvers carried out. The municipal police also intervened on the scene: the officers were passing by in a car when they realized the emergency. After having ascertained what had happened, they informed the deputy prosecutor Christine Von Borries of the incident, who ordered the return of the body to the family.
