The Carabinieri Forestali of the Padula Station, following confidential information acquired and within the framework of joint activities with the ASL veterinarians, aimed at verifying animal welfare, carried out an inspection in a private home located in an ancient building in the historic center of Padula, where they found a serious situation of degradation.
Upon entering the home of a 60-year-old man, the military found 10 medium/small sized mixed-breed dogs, locked in various rooms, with floors and furniture covered in excrement and stained with urine, with little food and water, with a pungent and acrid odor and the air practically unbreathable.
The most serious situation was found in the garden adjacent to the house; in an underground room accessed through an iron trap door, there were 8 puppies of about two months, in conditions of serious suffering, locked in a very dirty environment with poor lighting and ventilation.
The military immediately took action to rescue the puppies.
Having noted the precarious conditions together with the ASL veterinarians, the military proceeded to seize the 18 animals and simultaneously reported their owner to the AG, for the crime foreseen and punished by art. 727 of the Criminal Code.
The animals were all examined and microchipped and entrusted to the custody of an authorized kennel in agreement with the Municipality of Padula.
