A musical about Saint Pio of Pietrelcina is the proposal on the Trianon Viviani bill for the Christmas holidays.
It is entitled “Actor Dei”, that is, “The Actor of God” and tells the story of the most beloved and discussed saint of recent decades for his fame as a miracle-worker, still familiarly called “Padre Pio” despite his canonization which took place seventeen years ago.
The show was created by the actor and singer-songwriter Attilio Fontana, who is not only involved in the leading role, but also in the musical direction and writing of the lyrics with Mariagrazia Fontana, Francesco Ventura, Antonio Carluccio, Michela Andreozzi and Federico Capranica.
Fontana, who has just released his latest single Gesù (L'ultimo comunista), with Actor Dei offers a poetic journey in music and dance of some moments in the life of the saint, born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina in 1887 and died in San Giovanni Rotondo in 1968, a simple and courageous man continually tested by physical and spiritual pain, driven by the will to lift the human race from suffering. With music ranging from the sacred to the traditional pizzica salentina and pop, choreographed by Orazio Caiti, the work thus brings us back to the youth of Padre Pio, from childhood to the miracle of the stigmata; then his spiritual maturation in San Giovanni Rotondo until the death of his mother; to arrive at the story of the thousand hardships for the creation of the Casa sollievo della Sofferenza.
An engaging show with scenographic video images, animated by a company of thirty actors, singers and dancers, directed and with sets by Bruno Garofalo.
In the role of Padre Pio, Fontana confirms that versatility and completeness of an artist who is not satisfied with just one language and continues his path of tireless human and artistic research. This is what he has demonstrated in the theater, for example with Vacanze romane alongside Serena Autieri, and on TV, winning, among other things, the title of champion and super champion of the third edition of Tale e Quale show. Loretta Goggi comments on this: "Attilio Fontana in Padre Pio is a flexible and sensitive interpreter who passes with ease from sweetness to torment, from humble obedience to the strength and impetuosity with which the Saint of Pietrelcina fought evil, harassment, hypocrisy throughout his earthly life".
With Fontana on stage, in the role of the antagonist, the Devil, Lello Giulivo.
Actor Dei was set up by Rosario Imparato for Immaginando Produzioni, with the organization of Mario Minopoli. The vocal coach of the company is Maria Grazia Fontana. The costumes are designed by Maria Grazia Nicotra and the scenographic video images are curated by Claudio Garofalo. Assistant director Gennaro Monti.
