Molière's comedy "The School for Wives," rewritten by Diego Sommaripa, will debut on Saturday, December 21st at the Teatro Tram in Naples. Running until January 6th, this original rewrite sets Molière's "The School for Wives" in modern-day Naples. The idea came from Diego Sommaripa, an actor, director, and playwright. He and his company Resistenza Teatro, in co-production with Teatro Tram, will star in the Christmas show running from December 21st to January 6th at the theater on Via Port'Alba.
How do you be a good wife? Molière asked himself this question in 1600 and we still ask ourselves this question today, a sign of the great contemporaneity of the French playwright. “I needed a timeless text and I found it in 'The School for Wives' – explains Sommaripa -: the love story, the comedy of misunderstanding, obsession, possessiveness, greed, naivety, desperation that pushes human beings to do things they would never have thought of doing, situations and feelings that are still part of our society today. I had fun rewriting it, bringing the story to the present day and to our land, even with some small hints of dialect”.
"This new initiative by Tram - explains artistic director Mirko Di Martino - is a reconfirmation of our vocation as a place of innovation and experimentation. The decision to involve the Resistenza Teatro company is also tangible proof of the support we like to offer to young companies and independent projects also through, as in this case, rewritings of classics with a strong personal edge".
A text that remains faithful to the power of Molière's writing, creating a theatrical "pastiche" based on comedy, with a brilliant, fast staging. On stage, a varied and powerful cast, composed of Antonio De Rosa, Fabiana Sera, Vittorio Passaro, Dolores Gianoli and Adriano Fiorillo. The assistant director is Marilia Testa, the scenes are by Giorgia Lauro, the costume consultancy by Rosario Martone, the graphics by Daniela Molisso; audio and lighting by Tommaso Vitiello and photos by Giulio Pollica.
Founded by Diego Sommaripa, Resistenza Teatro is a collective born in 2013, winner in 2013, 2014 and 2018 of the Li Curti prize. Many awards obtained also in the context of “I corti della formica”, with which it has repeatedly won direct access to the Positano Teatro Festival.
