"The mother of the child excluded from the Christmas play at school because of his disability has decided to make him change schools and no one can judge the choice of a mother who has seen her child discriminated against. The letter she released this morning opens a wound because it represents a defeat for the institutions and, in particular, for the world of school that have not been able to guarantee the rights of a child". Thus, in a note, the president of the parliamentary commission for Childhood and Adolescence, Licia Ronzulli. "I have filed - she adds - a question to the Minister of Education, Lorenzo Fioramonti, and to the Minister for Equal Opportunities, Elena Bonetti, asking that they ascertain what happened with the tools they have. We need to understand, for example, why this student did not have a support teacher, as required in these cases by law 104, even though the school has the functional diagnosis and all the official certifications relating to the minor's pathology". Ronzulli hoped that once the investigation phase is concluded, "the ministries questioned can implement measures to prevent similar episodes from happening again. The treatment reserved for the child, who is only 5 years old, - she underlines - goes against our constitutional principles, against the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, against Italian norms for social integration and the rights of disabled people and, above all, against common sense. It is a case that - she concludes - cannot and must not be underestimated".
Lawyer Colombo, guarantor of the disabled of the Campania Region, regarding the case of the autistic child excluded from the Christmas play in a private school in Afragola, expresses strong condemnation towards the school and invites to rethink the choice. The Guarantor recalls that the school inclusion of disabled children is a condition for obtaining and maintaining the recognition of the operation of private schools and that a correct and full social inclusion starts from the school. Finally - continues the note - Colombo deeply regrets, as Christmas is essentially a time of love, hope and sharing and not of division and marginalization
