It's still cold in central and southern Italy, where a flow of cold air from the Balkans is bringing snow even at low altitudes to the central and southern Adriatic regions, from Molise to upper Puglia, down to Ionian Calabria and northeastern Sicily. Settled weather, however, is forecast for the rest of Italy, according to forecasts from 3B Meteo meteorologists. In central and southern Italy, unstable conditions are causing snowfall even at hilly altitudes, averaging 500 meters and 800 meters in Sicily. In some areas, starting in the Sila mountains, gusts of northeastern wind are causing storms. Unstable conditions are expected to continue until Monday, with showers in the south, and from Tuesday, high pressure will favor stable and sunny weather across Italy, with temperatures gradually rising again. The sun will also greet New Year's Eve 2020, thanks to the interruption of the flow of cold air from the Balkans and the presence of an anticyclone that will lead to a brief retreat of winter. During the same period, temperatures will rise again, exceeding seasonal averages in maximum values, especially in the North, thanks to the influx of a very mild air mass from Africa. "2020 will close with rather anomalous warm conditions in the western Alpine arc, where temperatures above the thermal inversion layers will reach much higher than seasonal averages," notes meteorologist Lorenzo Badellino of 3B Meteo. The cold, coming from Northern Europe, could return in the first few days of 2020, around Epiphany. (ANSA). BG 29-DEC-19 14:41 NNNN
