Cusano Mutri. Illegal felling of tall trees and theft of wood in a protected area of the Matese Regional Park. Following an operation to monitor the territory and control wooded areas, carried out by the NIPAAF military of the Carabinieri Forestali Group of Benevento, aimed at combating wood theft and with particular attention to the state-owned areas of the Matese regional park, a 61-year-old from Cusano Mutri was arrested.
The person was caught in the act of stealing numerous beech trees on a state-owned area in the municipality of Cusano Mutri in the locality of “Fragoleto — Bocca Della Selva” which falls within the Matese Regional Park, SIC — ZPS area.
The military, after having carried out the expected checks, seized approximately 50 quintals of wood, as well as the means used to commit the crime.
The Carabinieri Forestali will not stop monitoring environmental crimes to guarantee and protect the forest heritage, aimed at combating a serious phenomenon such as the cutting and theft of wood.
