Maurizio Zamparini, former owner and president of Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo, the former Palermo club now bankrupt, has been indicted for the collapse of his former club. The Friulian businessman, already on trial before the judges of the Fourth Section of the Palermo Court, was indicted again today by preliminary hearing judge Michele Guarnotta, along with accountant Anastasio Morosi, secretary Alessandra Bonometti, and one of the auditors of the former club, Enzio Caimi. All have chosen the ordinary trial procedure, and the start of the trial has been set for April 7 before the judges of the Fourth Section of the Palermo Court. The preliminary hearing judge, however, granted the request for a summary trial for the other three defendants, former Palermo president Giovanni Giammarva and the other two members of the board of auditors Michele Vendrame and Andrea Favatella. Their trial before preliminary hearing judge Guarnotta will begin on February 7. Zamparini, already on trial for another strand of the same investigation, is accused of money laundering, false accounting, and false corporate communications.
