With its ruling of December 19, the Court of Cassation ruled that growing small quantities of cannabis for home use is not a crime. For the first time in Italy, case law has taken a clear stance, authorizing the self-production of modest quantities for personal use. The authoritative decision of the joint sections thus offers new hope to all those with health problems, who in our country are still forced to contend with stringent measures and high costs. Indeed, although cannabis for therapeutic use has long been "downgraded" from a narcotic to a pharmacological substance prescribable by any doctor, the process for obtaining it remains complicated and requires many months of waiting. This ruling could also pave the way for an effective fight against the black market, which unfortunately sells low-quality products containing pathogens that are extremely dangerous to human health.
Fabrizio Premuti, National President of Konsumer Italia, immediately declared when he heard the news: “Enough with the witch hunt, it is necessary to focus all available forces against illegality and organized crime, fight the dealers of death, avoid abuses, make the country more just.”
