The resignation of the mayor of Sant'Anastasia, Raffaele Abete, was filed today. He was arrested last December 6th together with a majority councilor, the municipal secretary, and a businessman from Salerno on charges of criminal association dedicated to the commission of multiple corruption crimes and aimed at illicitly facilitating the passing of public competitions. For two other people, the winner of a competition and her husband, the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office had issued a ban on residence in Campania. Today, the municipal administrators announced, the resignations of the councilors and the Municipal Board will also be presented, who initially decided to continue their activity while waiting for the judicial results. The mayor Abete and the arrested councilor, Pasquale Iorio, had been suspended by the Prefect of NAPLES a few days ago, while new candidates have emerged who allegedly paid to win one of the competitions announced by the Municipality. For two of the defendants, the municipal secretary Egizio Lombardi, and the Salerno businessman legal representative of the agency that managed the competitions, the Court of Appeal partially annulled the precautionary measure in reference to the crime of association, confirming all the others relating to corruption, with the relative need for custody in prison.
