In a few days, in mid-January, young Daniele will return home. He's in a vegetative state: he'll turn 16 on January 21st, and when he was 14, he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing in the town square.
Help didn't arrive immediately: the ambulance was busy with another emergency. When Daniele was reached by paramedics, the defibrillator was activated seven times to revive him. A long journey across Italy then began: first admitted to the San Luca Hospital in Vallo della Lucania, then to Naples, Tuscany, and Emilia Romagna. In Cilento, they mobilized: a Facebook page, "Daniele is my friend," was created to support the young man and his family. Some merchandise was also produced—most notably a mug with his initial linked to his heart and attached to a thin string—to raise funds and support his treatment. The diagnosis speaks of a vegetative state, but we are all hoping for a miracle...", is written on the Facebook page dedicated to him. And again: "Meanwhile, thanks to the Love that multiplies, we also want to dedicate to You a small symbol of our Friendship... The purchase of these gadgets will help support You on Your journey... Proud to always increase the number of Your Friends... proud to hold Your hand in this moment of trial... Because Friendship has no boundaries... it goes BEYOND space and time... and we will demonstrate this to You, awaiting Your awakening..."
