A conference was held this afternoon in the Siani Hall of the Torre Annunziata Courthouse on the topic: Human Rights and the Legal Profession: The Inseparable Bond. Reflections on the Sidelines of World Human Rights Day. The conference, organized by the Torre Annunziata Bar Association, the Enrico De Nicola Foundation, and the Human Rights Commission, included welcoming remarks by Luisa Liguoro, President of the Torre Annunziata Bar Association; Gennaro Torrese, President of the Enrico De Nicola Foundation; Francesco Caia, Member of the National Federation of Italian National Federations (CNF) and Coordinator of the National Federation of Italian National Federations (CNF) Human Rights Commission; and Dr. Ernesto Aghina, President of the Torre Annunziata Courthouse. Talking on the important topic were Roberto Giovene Di Girasole, Member of the Mediterranean Commission for International Relations of the CNF and co-author of the Manual: "The Defense of Human Rights," and Elio D'Aquino, Vice President of the Torre Annunziata Bar Association. At the center of the debate was Nasrin Sotoudeh, sentenced to 33 years in prison in Iran for fighting for a fair trial and the rights of the accused. Iranian lawyer Nasdir Soutodeh was discussed by Shervin Haravi, an Iranian lawyer with Italian citizenship. The debate was moderated by Michele Gargiulo, Coordinator of the Human Rights Commission of the Enrico De Nicola Foundation and Member of the Human Rights Commission of the National Council of Italy. The meeting, which focused on sensitive international issues, was well attended. Among the various proposals was a petition to the Iranian government by the Torre del Greco lawyers calling for Nasrin Sotoudeh's release.
