Two people are under investigation for the death of Professor Antonello Crisci, who died on Tuesday, December 17, after a long illness following gallbladder surgery. An autopsy will be performed in the coming hours.
The professor - a respected medical examiner and scientist known and esteemed even outside the province of Salerno, consultant to the Prosecutor's Office, died in a clinic in Basilicata but the deputy prosecutor Maria Benincasa has ordered the immediate transfer of his body to Salerno, to the morgue of the San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d'Aragona hospital. The autopsy will now have to ascertain the causes of death.
There are two and there is a risk that the charge will be aggravated, transformed into manslaughter. During the laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery, Professor Crisci suffered a perforation of an ileal loop that caused peritonitis. A second operation was necessary.
