The death of the deputy director of the Mobile Unit of the Naples Police Headquarters, which occurred late yesterday evening in via Solfatara in upper Pozzuoli, is tinged with mystery. Ciro Lomaistro, 50 years old, he was riding his scooter and was returning home. The accident in fact occurred near the 'Copin' bridge a few dozen meters from the victim's home. The scooter with Lamaistro on it collided with a car coming in the opposite direction and ended up on the pavement. In all likelihood - the investigations still underway will have to ascertain this also through the footage of public and private video surveillance in the area - he was hit by another car in the opposite lane that then continued without stopping. The man was wearing a helmet, found a few dozen meters from the site of the accident and confirmed by the first footage viewed from the video surveillance. The 118 and municipal police teams were on site, but for the police director there was nothing that could be done. The body was transferred for an autopsy at the second Polyclinic of Naples at the disposal of the judicial authorities. He leaves behind his wife, a police inspector, and three young children. The investigations are being conducted by the Pozzuoli Municipal Police. “This is an unusual accident and we are trying to patiently reconstruct all the pieces of the tragic impact. We will also be working this morning with further surveys and checks of the video cameras present,” said Silvia Mignone, commander of the Pozzuoli Municipal Police who is coordinating the investigations. Many messages of condolence on social media. The IV Mobile Department of Naples wrote on its Facebook page: “It is a sad day today. Due to a tragic road accident, Ciro Lomaistro, our deputy director, has left us. One of us, one of the most active and passionate members of our Department. He had the department in his blood and over the years he passed on to us his experience and his attachment to the State Police. His commitment on the front lines in many events was an example for all of us. Thank you Ciro, we will miss you so much, but you will always remain alive in our memories…”.
