Giugliano. In a long and detailed appeal letter, Dr. Antonio Di Nardo, head of the Cobas (Italian Workers' Union) at Cardalli Hospital, is asking the mayor of Giugliano and law enforcement to ban the sale of alcohol in the square during the traditional New Year's Eve toast. "The unfortunate incident, which occurred on December 24, 2019, once again involving minors, has made us the subject of front pages in local newspapers, as well as national and television news programs," Di Nardo writes, adding: "The incident, which transformed a beautiful moment of celebration in the square among young people and families, 'fortunately' did not turn into a 'tragedy' given the large number of citizens who crowded those squares. We witnessed moments of unprecedented violence, where very young people found themselves hitting each other with glass bottles, transforming their faces into veritable 'masks of blood.'"
At the same time, many shops and local bars sold bottles of sparkling wine freely in the square and at the expense of everyone, especially minors.
Therefore, even though we know that alcoholic beverages can be purchased elsewhere or even brought from home, simply to avoid making ourselves accomplices, in view of the Brindisi of 31.12.2019/22/00, we ask the Mayor to impose an absolute ban on the free sale of alcoholic beverages to minors in the square, under penalty of heavy fines to the shopkeeper/seller and confiscation of the goods by the local police and that there be greater control by the police starting from the early afternoon until around XNUMX:XNUMX pm.
In order to ensure the safety of many young people, families who take to the streets with wheelchairs, simply for a moment of collective celebration, which cannot and must not be transformed into something else.
The mirror of 24.12.2019, serves as a monitor to ensure that episodes of violence triggered by the usual irresponsible people up to now, seem unpunished, no longer involve an entire town and its inhabitants".
